x264 Video Codec

Note also that the x264 offers the CABAC (Context-Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding) and CAVLC (Context-Adaptive Variable-Length Coding) are two entropy coding methods.

The CABAC is generally said to be more efficient however there is a drawback in that it is more complex and computationally intensive. This while say the CAVLC is faster and easier to implement but less efficient. Both  of the compression methods are used in the H.264 video compression.
